Pirates at Houghton

After the success of this years Youth Brass Band Entertainment Championships, it’s an absolute pleasure to again be commissioned to compose a program for Houghton Area Youth in readiness for next years contest.

In February, the band took part in the contest at the Blackpoool Winter Gardens, coming a very credible 3rd overall and 1st for entertainment.  The band, led by their MD’s Brian Adams and Glenis Smith put together a visual masterpiece set to the music I had written for them.  Their theme being ‘toys coming to life’.

This time, the band have picked a Pirate theme for their program and I can’t wait to get started on the music.  In fact…I already have.  After having seen the final performance the band put on, and what they are capable of, I am so looking forward to working with them once again on this project.

I have also enlisted the help of another composer and friend, Luke McCormick.  Luke recently graduated from Newcastle University majoring in composition and currently plays Eb Bass with Westoe Brass Band.  Again I’m looking forward to working with him on this project.

Thanks Again to Houghton Youth Band for the opportunity!
