Lee was born in South Shields and grew up in Boldon. He started instrument lessons at the age of 9, learning Cornet under the tuition of Gary Young. He joined the STBBS (South Tyneside Brass Band Scheme) when he was 10, where he played until leaving School at 16. During this time he also played for the Ovington Tynedale Band and the South Tyneside youth Orchestra.
He went on to study Music at South Tyneside College and eventually at Newcastle University. It was during his second year of College that Lee joined the Westoe Colliery Band. It was during this time he developed an interest in composing music, having studied composing for Film & TV and Contemporary Compositional Techniques.
Lee wrote a number of Brass Band arrangements for the Westoe Band before eventually being commissioned to compose a piece in 2011 to celebrate the bands Centenary status. It was from here, that Lee decided to pursue a career in Music and in 2012, set up Creative Brass Publishing to showcase his own music.
Since then, Lee has worked with a number of bands in the North East, writing and arranging music. He has also composed a number of solos for some of the top performers in the area and around the country, having written solos for winners at the Fodens Youth contest in 2013 & 14.
Lee has recently taken up the resident MD role at Westoe Band and continues to act as composer in residence for the band. He is also composer and arranger in association with Murton Colliery Band, where he conducted between 2014-2015.
