Lee started playing cornet at the age of 10 under the tuition of tenor horn player Gary Young. After joining the South Tyneside Brass Band Scheme and working his way to Principal cornet, he joined Ovington Tynedale band. He held the same position until the band folded in 2003. He then joined the Westoe Brass Band in South Shields.
After a number of years on cornet, he made the switch to Eb Bass in 2011 and is currently principal Eb Bass with Westoe Brass Band.
Lee attended South Tyneside College and Newcastle University studying music, with a particular interest in composing and arranging. He first started writing for Westoe Brass Band in 2006 with an arrangement for their annual charity concert at South Shields Customs House. Lee is now the resident composer and arranger for the band, having written some 20+ pieces for them over the last 5 years.
As well as playing and composing, Lee is also a keen conductor and currently holds the MD position at Murton Colliery Band.
